Welcome to Buford High School Guidance and Counseling Webpage. The guidance and counseling office provides many services and programs for students, parents, and faculty to assist in achieving academic success and in exploring options for the future. The school houses a wealth of information concerning occupations and post-secondary choices. A counseling staff member is available to assist students and parents in their search for information concerning colleges, armed services, careers, and financial aid.

Mrs. Traci Hamby
Guidance Counselor
Mrs. Hamby has worked in public education for 19 years. Prior to, she worked for the Department of Family and Children Services as a social worker. She graduated high school in Rome, Georgia by way of North Carolina, Texas, and Arkansas. She earned a B.S. degree in Human Resource Management and Marketing. In addition, she earned a M.Ed. in Teaching, M.Ed. in School Counseling and later her Ed.S. in Educational Leadership. She has worked for Calhoun City Schools, Cartersville City Schools, and now Buford City Schools for the last 10 years as a guidance counselor. She is married and has 2 children.

Mrs. Carissa Adam
Guidance Counselor
Mrs. Adam serves the students, faculty, and parents of Buford as a guidance counselor. The 2011- 2012 school year begins her 4th year at BHS. She has been in the field of education for 12 years and has been a biology teacher and a counselor. She spent one year working in New York City and her other years in Gwinnett County. She earned her B.S.Ed. from the University of Georgia and her M.Ed. and Ed.S. from Georgia State University. She is married and has 1 child.

Coach Neal Auer
Graduation Coach
As the Graduation Coach at BHS, Coach Auer serves our students in several capacities. His primary function is to help all students graduate from BHS on schedule. Coach Auer also handles test preparation for state testing and coordinates all of the credit recovery opportunities for Buford students. This year marks his 19th year in education, he spent 15 of those years as a social studies teacher and 4 years as the Graduation Coach. Coach Auer holds a B.A. in History from North Carolina State University and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia.

Mrs. Cathy Horton
Registrar
Mrs. Horton begins her second year at BHS and serves at the school registrar. Before coming to Buford HS, she worked in the Gwinnett County School System as a Registrar, Bookkeeper and Administrative Assistant. Born in Havana, Cuba and grew up in Decatur, Ga. She attended Avondale High School, DeKalb Community College and Georgia State University. She is married and has 2 children and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Dianna McWhorter
Records Clerk
Mrs. McWhorter has worked with BCSS since 2007 and begins her second year at Buford High School. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, moved to Charlottesville, Virginia and started college. She moved to Georgia and completed her B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration from Georgia State University. She worked as professional meeting planner and event coordinator until her children were born. She is married to Lee McWhorter and they have 3 children, Jarrod, Courtney and Tyler; Courtney and Tyler are BHS graduates. She enjoys history, archaeology, politics, travel, cooking international dishes, and is an avid Lacrosse fan.

Miss Morgan Collins
Career Center Coordinator
Miss Collins begins her first year at Buford High School. She is from Gwinnett County and graduated high school from Central Gwinnett. She attended the University of Georgia in Athens where she earned a B.S. in Telecommunications with a minor in Psychology. Her past work experience has been in the fields of business and technology. Miss Collins will be serving the students of BHS in the capacity of exploration and planning for post-secondary options.
